jon: so if these talks fail, and we go over the fiscal cliff, do both sides share in the blame equally? >> i don't think so. i think it is likely that the house republicans and even senate republicans, even though they're in the minority in the senate are going to get more of the blame but it depend on what kind of view you're taking here if you're a republican. i don't think it would be wise for them politically to take just any deal to avoid political blame for the fiscal cliff because it could cause them more internal problems looking ahead to 2014. and if you're looking from a philosophical point of view where substantively republicans believe in things and think certain things are better for the economy and the country, they will be in a weaker position to achieve any of those things. but they have to take into the consideration the idea that everybody's taxes will go up january 1st if there is no deal. it is not going to be all on the president's shoulders. in fact most of might be on theirs temporarily and for good. they have to decide what is the better position. and you know,
